  • Psalm 95
    1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. 3 For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.

    Psalm 100
    3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. 4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise;
    give thanks to him and praise his name. 5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations.

    Philippians 4
    5Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

    1 Timothy 2 (Instructions on Worship)
    1I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- 2for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.

    eucharistia {yoo-khar-is-tee'-ah} (2169): thankfulness, the giving of thanks

    When I think of thanksgiving, these are four of the verses that come immediately to mind.  Along with them I’ve listed the Hebrew and Greek words with their Strong’s numbers and the various ways they are translated in scripture.  From the O.T. the most important part of thanksgiving, to me, is that if we are to enter His presence and come before Him, it must be with thanksgiving.  From the N.T. we see that we are not to worry or fret but to bring our problems and worries to Him with thanksgiving and that all prayer, even intercession, involves thanksgiving.  Maybe we don’t see our prayers answered at times because we are not thankful to Him for what He does and Who He is and if taken according to the O.T. verses, because our lack of thanksgiving keeps us from entering His presence and therefore hinders our prayers from being heard.  This is not so much doctrine as it is life and we all know that we appreciate those people who are thankful to us better than those who just take from us and disappear.  Think about these things as we all gather together for the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow and don’t forget to thank Him abundantly and to thank those around us who care so much for us.

    Have a great and blessed Holiday with Him and with your family and friends!
